'Bows on Wrong End of Pitchers Duel

HONOLULU – The Hawai'i baseball team fell victim to one of the best pitching performances in the country on Friday afternoon, dropping a 3-0 game to UC Santa Barbara on the back of UC Santa Barbara's starting pitcher Michael McGreevy's 9.0 three-hit scoreless innings.

The Rainbow Warriors (11-8, 3-6 Big West) got hits from left fielder Scotty Scott and center fielder Adam Fogel in the game, but the rest of the seven batters couldn't reach base in the game as McGreevy faced just two above the minimum.

Hawai'i's starter wasn't bad, sophomore Aaron Davenport went 8.1 innings, a career-high, gave up three runs on seven hits – all singles, and struck out four. But, for the third-straight Big West start, Davenport didn't get run support from his teammates.

The top of the lineup did the damage for the Gauchos (16-7, 7-2 Big West), clubbing seven of the eight hits, all seven off of Davenport. Two Gauchos had two hits and the other four hits came from the 1-2-3 batters and pinch hit infield single with the bases loaded in the ninth.

The Rainbow Warriors will look to bounce back in Saturday's doubleheader with UCSB starting at 12 p.m. HT at Les Murakami Stadium.
