SEATTLE – The No. 15 University of Hawaii beach volleyball team claimed the Husky Invitational title with a pair of wins Saturday at  Alki Beach. The Rainbow Wahine (13-7) swept Portland 5-0 to advance to the finals where they ultimately defeated host Washington, 4-1.
 
With five wins over the last two days, including three victories in yesterday's pool play, the BeachBows extended their win streak to a season-best six matches. UH has won four of them via shutout fashion.
 
In the first match of the day, the Rainbow Wahine had little trouble with Portland, save for a three-set match at the No. 1 flight. The bottom four flights eased their way to straight set victories with none being very close. However the Pilots extended Pani Napoleon and Jaime Santer to three sets before the pair eventually defeated Shayla Hoeft and Alycia Wodke 19-21, 21-11, 15-9.
 
In the finals versus Washington, UH got dominant straight set wins at the No. 2, 3 and 5 flights to clinch the dual match and the tourney title. Brooke Van Sickle and Amber Igiede secured the win with a 21-15, 21-12 sweep over Natalie Robinson and Avie Niece at the No. 2 flight. With UH having already clinched the match, the Huskies took UH to three sets at the No. 1 and No. 4 flight with the teams splitting those matches.
 
UH will remain in Seattle for one more day of action at Alki Beach tomorrow as the Rainbow Wahine will face No. 9 Arizona at 9:30 a.m. HT and Washington at 12:30 p.m. HT in a pair of dual matches.
