Beach Volleyball Heads To Pacific Northwest For Series Of Matches

After wrapping up its 2021 home schedule, the No. 15 University of Hawai'i beach volleyball team heads back on the road for a total of seven matches in the Pacific Northwest. The Rainbow Wahine will play in the four-team Husky Invitational on April 16 and 17 before facing host Washington and No. 9 Arizona in single-match duals on Sunday, April 18.

Joining UH (8-7) and Washington (1-7) in the Husky Invitational are Oregon (2-6) and Portland (0-0). It will mark the first time in program history that the Rainbow Wahine will meet Oregon and Portland on the beach volleyball court. Meanwhile, UH will play the Huskies for just the third time ever and for the first time in Seattle.

UH will face a ranked squad in No. 9 Arizona on the final day of its trip, the first meeting between the squads since 2017. The Wildcats boast a 16-4 record on the season, including 2-2 against common opponents of UH this season. The Wildcats lost 3-2 at Cal Poly in March, split with Stanford and defeated California 4-1 this past Sunday.

UH is coming of a six-match homestand in which it faced stiff competition against conference rivals Long Beach State and Cal Poly. Pani Napoleon and Jaime Santer put out a strong performance over the weekend against No. 6 Cal Poly a by winning two out of their three-matchups. It was a weekend highlighted by a straight set win over Cal Poly's No. 1 pair of Emily Sonny and Macy Gordon that put the cap on a 5-0 sweep of the Mustangs. Napoleon and Santer are a team-best 8-3 in 11 matches together this season.

Following their weekend in Seattle, the Rainbow Wahine will return home and enjoy a bye week before heading out to Long Beach, Calif., for the 2021 Big West Championships, April 30-May 1.
