HONOLULU— The University of Hawai'i softball team fell to No. 8 University of Washington 11-3 in the second game of a three-game series Friday evening at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Â
The Rainbow Wahine (0-2) snapped a four-game stretch of UW shutout opponents with three runs on the night. The Huskies (15-2) extended their current win streak to five games.
Â
Junior pitcher
Ashley Murphy battled with the heavy-handed UW lineup through two and a third innings, showing flashes of brilliance but succumbing to the offensive onslaught. Murphy got the home squad past the first inning, allowing two runs while pitching wiggling out of a bases-loaded jam in the second for a scoreless frame. The Huskies struck in the third inning for five runs, knocking the 'Bows' number-two starter from the game.
Â
Murphy finished the night allowing nine hits and five earned runs. Seniors
Emily Klee and
Dominique Martinez came on relief combining for two and two-thirds innings, allowing two earned runs.
Â
UH showed a different approach at the plate on Friday than Thursday, drawing five walks against starting pitcher Kelly Lynch. The 'Bows plated their first run of the series in the bottom of third on a sacrifice fly by senior third baseman Angelique "Cheeks" Ramos, scoring junior center field
Brittnee Rossi. But Ramos' night at the plate wasn't over as she launched her first home run of the season over the left-center-field wall in the bottom of fifth.
Â
UH, and UW will conclude the three-game series tomorrow at 2 p.m. HT.
