HONOLULU, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team defeated UC San Diego for the second straight day with a 4-0 victory, Friday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine improved their overall season record to 4-2 with their third straight home win.
 
A day after beating the Tritons (1-4) in a Big West match in the first-ever meeting between the squads, the team's squared off again in a non-league matchup that was played to the clinching point.
 
In doubles, UH's Madison Kim and Léa Romain reached the finish line first by winning, 6-1, against UCSD's Shweta Kumar and Monica Stratakos on the No. 3 court. This left the Rainbow Wahine to win on courts No. 1 or No. 2 to secure the doubles point, and they did with UH's Nikola Dolakova and Satsuki Takamura winning, 6-3, over UCSD's Ella Pachl and Sophie Pearson on the No. 1 court.
 
In singles, Romain finished first on the No. 3 court by overcoming Wagner early in the first set, 6-1, 6-4. Rebecca Ehn followed by finishing second on the No. 6 court, giving away only two games to UCSD's Tiara Nourishad, 6-2, 6-0.  The clinching point game on the No. 2 court by Takamura, who defeated Pachl with a dominant second set, 6-4, 6-1.  
 
When the match was called, Dolokova had the lead over Pearson, 6-3, 4-2, on the No. 1 court, while Kim and Stratakos were going head to head in a third set on the No. 4 court. Alexis Merrill was also applying pressure to UCSD's Julianna Sabile on the No. 5 court, 7-6 (7-3), when the 'Bows earned the match victory.
 
The Rainbow Wahine will now play their third match in as many days when they take on Big West opponent Cal Poly on Saturday, March 27 at 11:00 a.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
