Burman Competes in the 3-meter of the NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C.—For the second consecutive day, junior Max Burman showcased his talents of the 3-meter event at the NCAA Championships, Friday afternoon at the Greensboro Aquatic Complex.

Burman finished at 28th overall, following nearly the same pattern as he did the day before, starting and ending strong but struggling at the halfway point. The Husqvarna, Sweeden native, scored a 58.50 in his first two dives, featuring an inward 2 ½ somersault pike followed by a back 2 ½ somersault pike.

On Thursday, Burman's fourth dive faltered in the 1-meter; during Friday's 3-meter, it was his third. Attempting a reverse 2 ½ somersault pike, the judges scored it at a 27.00, hurting his average and total score. He did recover, scoring north of 60 points in his last two dives, including his highest score of the day on a forward 2 ½ somersault twist pike for a 66.30, ending his day with a total of 324.50 in the quarterfinals.

Andrew Capobianco of Indiana University claimed the title on the day, repeating as the champion from 2019. Capobianco finished the day with a score of 505.20, outdoing his score of 461.65 from two years ago.

The NCAA Championships will conclude on Saturday as freshman Zach Lundgren will debut the Rainbow Warriors in the platform event. Two weeks ago, Lundgren placed fifth overall in the Zone E Championships to qualify for the nationals.
