GREENSBORO, N.C.—The University of Hawai'i men's diving team kick-started its week at the NCAA Championships on Thursday as junior
Max Burman competed in the 1-meter event at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Burman started the day off strong by scoring a 62.40 with his first dive featuring a forward 2 ½ somersault twist pike. While Burman began the day on a high note and finished with two dives scoring north of 50 points, it was his fourth dive that kept him out of the top 20 positions.
On a reverse 2 ½ somersault tuck, Burman scored a 21.00, knocking him out of contention for a spot in the championships or consolation rounds. Burman finished at 25th overall, setting the bar for tomorrow's 3-meter, where he will compete again.
The University of Texas, former stomping ground of head coach
Mike Brown, had the best day of any institution at the 1-meter as Jordan Windle and Noah Duperre finished first and second. Windle previously finished at fourth in 2019 and fifth in 2018 of the national championships and eventually claiming the title this year.
