HONOLULU, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team captured a hard-fought win against Big West opponent CSUN in their home opener, 4-3, Sunday at the UH Tennis Complex. 
 
The match came down to court No. 5, where Lea Romain clinch the dual with a three-set win over Alexandra Turchak, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. In fact, the Rainbow Wahine rallied from a 3-2 deficit as Petra Melounova battled back for a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 victory over Ekatarina Repina at No. 1 to tie the dual at 3-3.
 
The Rainbow Wahine (2-2) got off to a strong start by capturing the doubles point as Melounova and Romain edged Jacquie Tan and Magdalena Hedrzak, 6-4 at No. 2 to secure the point. UH found themselves behind as Satsuki Takamura and Nikola Dolakova fell to CSUN's No. 1 duo of Ana Fraile Toboso and Jolene Coetzee, 6-1. However, UH's Rebecca Ehn and Alexis Merrill evened the score with a smooth win over Repina and Jenna Dorian, 6-2. 
 
Singles was equally nail-biting with both teams securing back and forth wins throughout the match. Takamura finished first, falling to Fraile Toboso on the No. 2 court, 6-4, 6-2. The 'Bows responded as Dolakova won on the No. 3 court over Fraile Toboso, 6-4, 6-2. UH's Madison Kim was outplayed by Tan, 6-4, 6-3 and Ehn contested Hedrzak on No. 6 but eventually gave way, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2, resulting in CSUN holding a 3-2 lead in the dual.
