Greensboro, N.C.—It was another eventful Friday in the Toyota U.S. Open as three swimmers from the University of Hawai'i swim team competed at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
For the first time in the event, senior
Ian Venter showcased his skills on the national platform in the 100 back. He placed eighth in the prelims with a time of 56.32, putting him in the A Final. While he didn't improve his time in the championship heat, he moved up by placing seventh overall, touching the wall at 56.48.
Graduate
Anna Kotonen continued her impressive showing as she worked her way into the A Final of the 100-meter breast. Kotonen clocked in at 1:14.29, finishing at the No. 7 position, giving her two finishes in A Finals of the Open.
Senior
John Clark continued his trend upwards as he recorded his second finish in a B Final. He placed fourth in the 200 meter free with a time of 1:53.13, finishing a little over a second better off his prelim time of 1:54.55.
Freshman
Owen Ngan was scheduled to go in the 400 individual medley but did not start.
On Saturday, the Open will wrap up as three student-athletes from UH will look to finish on a solid note. Kotonen will be a part of the 100 free, Venter in the 200 back, and Ngan will compete in the 1500 free.
