HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i football team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 50-44 shootout win over Colorado State on senior night Saturday at the Clarence T.C. Ching Complex.
The Rainbow Warriors (5-7, 2-5) scored on their first three possessions of the game – all resulting in
Matthew Shipley field goals – and produced a multitude of long touchdown plays. The night was fueled by nearly 1,200 yards of total offense and close to 100 points by both teams. The 50 points scored by UH were the most in the
Todd Graham era.
Following the game, 17 Rainbow Warriors were honored during a senior ceremony.
Junior quarterback
Chevan Cordeiro produced his highest passing total of the season with 406 yards and three total touchdowns on 23-of-41 passing. The Honolulu native connected with junior
Zion Bowens for a 93-yard touchdown in the second quarter, the second-longest in school history. Bowens totaled a career-high 172 receiving yards on six receptions.
UH went ahead 36-10 late into the third quarter before CSU rattled off 21 unanswered points and pulled within one possession. The Warriors and Rams traded scores until the end. Senior
Dedrick Parson scored two late touchdowns including a 37-yard scamper with 2:27 remaining. The Rams tacked on one last touchdown but UH recovered the ensuing onside kick.
Linebacker
Darius Muasau led the defense with two sacks, three forced fumbles, and his 13 tackles put him over 100 on the season for the second straight year. Junior
Cameron Lockridge returned an interception 40 yards to the house just before halftime, giving the Warriors a 29-10 lead. His pick six helped tie the school record for defensive touchdowns in a season with five.
The Rams (3-8, 2-5) totaled 651 yards of offense, the majority came in the form of 527 passing yards and five touchdowns from quarterback Todd Centeio.
The Warriors ride into Wyoming next Saturday for their regular season finale. Kickoff is set for 10:00 a.m. HT.
