DAVIS, Calif. - Surrounded by mist, the University of Hawai'i cross country team put their best foot forward to claim eighth place in the Big West Cross Country Championships Friday morning at Wildhorse Golf Course in Davis, Calif.
"A very solid race by the 'Bows today," said UH head coach
Tim Boyce. "Pleased by the effort each runner gave, with some at much less than 100% health-wise. We have the potential to be an increasingly competitive program; for six of our eight runners, this was their first Big West Cross Country Championship race; the future can bring even stronger results if we believe."
Junior
Sophia Morgan led the 'Bows as UH's top finisher, placing 38th with a time of 22:22.7. Not long after, senior
Olivia Hill and freshman
Sam North joined Morgan beyond the finish line after running times of 22:31.8 and 22:33.4, placing 41st and 43rd, respectively.
A little over a minute later, sophomore
Ellis Collins and freshman
Becca Bodine crossed the marker, placing 59th and 60th with times of 23:43.3 and 23:57.3. Freshman
Sacia Ashe recorded a time of 24:21.1, placing 65th.
Sophomores
Sophia Lodigiani and
Terra Stevens concluded the event for UH after recording times of 24:35.4 and 25:36.4, placing them at 68th and 72nd.
Overall, UH placed eighth with 219 points and a total time of 1:55:08.50. UC Davis won the team title after accumulating 26 points, knocking off 2019 champion Cal State Fullerton.
The Rainbow Wahine will now head back home for a two-week break before traveling back to California to compete in the NCAA West Region Championships on Friday, Nov. 12th.
