SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of Hawaii coed and Rainbow Wahine sailors enjoyed a stellar weekend with both squads capturing their respective events at the Stoney Burke Intersectional, held Oct. 9-10, in San Francisco Bay.
The coed squad, led by skippers
Bastien Rasse,
Owen Lahr, and
Samuel Patton, crushed the competition with a weekend low of 70 points, nearly 30 points clear of its nearest competitor, UC Santa Barbara. A total of 15 schools in all competed in the coed division. Serving on crew for the Rainbows were
Devon Stapleton,
Frances Tarpey-Schwed and
Sam Kimmel.
It marked the seventh time in the last 12 years that the coed Rainbows have captured the regatta, and the first since 2015. A total of 20 races – 10 in each division – were completed over the weekend.
Meanwhile, on the women's side, the Rainbow Wahine were equally impressive. UH finished with 27 points with UC San Diego placing second, a full 17 points off the pace.
Mercy Tangredi (skipper) and
Kelsie Grant (crew) competed in the A division, while
Morgan Carew (skipper) and
Sophia Schaeffer (crew) sailed in the B division with 10 races in the books for each division.
Next up for the coed team is the PCCSC Fall Championship in Santa Barbara on Nov. 13-14, while the women's PCCSC Fall Championship will be Oct. 30-31 in Redwood City.
