Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Hawai‘i Holds Off Cal State Fullerton, 57-43

HONOLULU-- For the second consecutive night, the University of Hawai'i women's basketball knocked off Cal State Fullerton inside SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center, 57-43.

The Rainbow Wahine (3-3, 2-2) notched their first Big West Conference weekend sweep with a win, moving their record to .500 overall and against conference opponents. The Titans (1-9, 0-6) have yet to pick up a conference victory, dropping their sixth in a row.

UH rode the momentum of their defense and a hot start by sophomore Kasey Neubert. The 'Bows held CSF to single-digit scoring in the opening frame, as Neubert matched their offensive output on her own, scoring seven points.

The defensive theme was established all night by the 'Bows as they held the Titans to single-digit scoring in three of four quarters. The six-point quarter by CSF in the second was a season-low by the UH defense, matching the same from the second frame in Friday night's game. The suffocating defense led to a double-digit lead for the UH at the half, 24-13.

Much like in game one, CSF worked on mounting a comeback in the second half, cutting an 18 point lead to a nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter at 40-31. The comeback effort was short-lived as senior guard Jadynn Alexander hit consecutive three-pointers to silence the Titans. As UH built its lead to 46-31, the score wouldn't dip into the single-digits again, leading to the UH victory.

Alexander accounted for a game-high 15 points, hitting 3-of-8 from three-point territory while adding five rebounds. Neubert continued to provide a contributing effort with a season-high 14 points and eight rebounds.

Along with picking up back-to-back wins, UH kept control of the basketball as they set another season-low in turnovers with 13. Unlike the previous evening where UH was outmanned on the boards, the 'Bows wiped the glass clean with 45 rebounds compared to the Titans' 32. Free throw shooting proved to be a bit point of emphasis for the home squad. As a team this season, UH is hitting 67% from the charity stripe. On Saturday, the 'Bows combined for 19-of-21 (90.5%) from the line.

The next series will be a new challenge for the 'Bows as they'll go on the road to face UC Irvine. The Anteaters (7-5, 4-0) are currently one of three teams to remain undefeated against conference opponents. Notching series sweeps over UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly.
