COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A record nine University of Hawai'i football student-athletes were recipients of the 2019-20 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award.
Among the recipients was punter
Ben Scruton, who became the program's third four-time honoree, joining offensive lineman Ben Clarke and long snapper
Noah Borden.
Two-time recipients included running backs
Hekili Keliiliki and
KK Padello and defensive lineman
Kaimana Padello while first-time honorees were linebacker
Tauivi Ho Ching, defensive lineman
Kalani Kamakawiwo'ole,
Jonah Panoke, defensive lineman
Foi Shaw and offensive lineman
Eliki Tanuvasa.
A league-record 1,023 student-athletes were honored with the award, which is considered one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in a Mountain West-sponsored sport.
Football is UH's only MW-sponsored sport.
