HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i football program announced the addition of North Texas transfer Rico Bussey, Jr., for the upcoming 2020 season. Bussey, a 6-foot-2, 193-pound senior will have one season of eligibility remaining.
In three-plus seasons for the Mean Green, the Lawton, Okla., native ranked fourth all-time in career receiving touchdowns (21) and career 100-yard games (9) and ninth in career receiving yards (1,947). He had 128 receptions in 34 career games.
In what should have been his senior year of 2019, Bussey suffered a season-ending injury during the third game of the season. A preseason Biletnikoff Award Watch List member, he had 150 yards and a touchdown prior to the injury.
In 2018, Bussey was a first-team all-Conference USA selection after leading the team with 68 catches for 1,017 yards and 12 touchdowns with six 100-yard games. As a sophomore in 2017, he finished with 47 catches for 677 yards and seven touchdowns.
Bussey was a three-star prospect out of Eisenhower High School in Oklahoma, where he accounted for 2,059 all-purpose yards as a senior with 16 combined touchdowns.
