Wu-Yelland Drafted by Red Sox

University of Hawai'i baseball junior pitcher Jeremy Wu-Yelland was drafted in the fourth round by the Boston Red Sox in the 2020 MLB Draft on Thursday. Wu-Yelland becomes the sixth Rainbow Warrior to be selected as a top-five round draft pick under head coach Mike Trapasso.
 
In his three-year career in Manoa, Wu-Yelland finished with 88.2 innings pitched and 92 strikeouts with a 4-8 overall record and three saves. Primarily utilized as a relief pitcher, the Spokane, Wash., native made eight starts in 40 appearances for the Rainbow Warriors.
 
The junior left-handed pitcher posted a 0.69 ERA in 2020 with 16 strikeouts over 13.0 innings pitched and two saves. Wu-Yelland allowed just one earned run on the season and threw a season-high 4.0 innings with six strikeouts at #2 Vanderbilt. The junior finished the year with the 15th lowest ERA in the country and a perfect 2-for-2 in save opportunities. The lefty pitched five-straight games to finish the season without allowing a run.
 
For the Chatham Anglers in the Cape Cod League in 2019, Wu-Yelland posted a 3.15 ERA but allowed just five earned runs in his last 24.0 innings pitched (1.88 ERA). The lefty struck out 26 batters for the Anglers and won two games in 10 appearances.
 
For the Rainbow Warriors in 2019, Wu-Yelland posted the second-most appearances on the team and started seven games. The lefty finished 2019 with 44 strikeouts over 46.1 innings and a 4.86 ERA.  
 
Wu-Yelland was ranked the 12th-best relief pitcher by D1Baseball.com and ranked inside Baseball America's Top 500 prospects.
