Rado Parapunov picked up his 10
th Big West Conference Player of the Week award – and third of the season – after the Rainbow Warriors' series split with then-No. 2 BYU.
The Sofia, Bulgaria native came up big when it mattered most, helping the Warriors salvage the split with a career performance in the rematch. Parapunov tallied a career-high 30 kills in the reverse sweep, hitting .440 with eight attack errors in a career-high 50 attempts. He became the first UH player to reach 30 kills in a match since Brook Sedore in 2013.
The senior opposite also posted a team-high 10 kills in the series opener. For the week, he averaged 5.00 kills, 1.38 digs, and 0.75 blocks per set while hitting .366 (40-14-71)
Parapunov also received the award Jan. 21 and Feb. 10. His 10 career BWC player of the week awards is a Big West record.
This season, he ranks No. 3 nationally in both kills per set (4.47) and points per set (5.28). He also has 16 aces on the year and is hitting at a .377 clip, which ranks No. 15 nationally. Parapunov needs 14 kills to become the 18
thplayer in program history to reach 1,000.
