HONOLULU – The bats fell flat for the University of Hawai'i baseball team as Oregon's starter Brett Walker held the Rainbow Warriors (11-6) hitless through five innings and to two hits in eight innings of Oregon's 13-2 win on Sunday.
Oregon (8-7) scored multiple runs in four different innings including five in the sixth. The Ducks hit three home runs and three doubles in their bounce back win. Oregon had a season-high hits and runs in the game with 17 hits.
Hawai'i's first hit came from redshirt senior catcher Tyler Murray who picked up his first base hit of the season. Murray singled in the ninth inning as well. Junior shortstop Kole Kaler smacked his third double of the series and ninth of the year in the seventh inning.
The Rainbow Warriors scored a pair of runs in the ninth off of Oregon's relief pitcher Kenyon Yovan. Murray singled to open the inning, freshman second baseman Kevin Taylor walked and freshman Naighel Calderon brought Murray home on a double into the gap. A sacrifice fly by freshman shortstop Bubba Akana scored Taylor.
Freshman Tai Atkins got the start, the first of his career, and threw 2.2 innings, allowing six hits and five earned runs. Seven different pitchers threw for the Rainbow Warriors.
Walker went 8.0 innings of scoreless work in his start, winning his third game of the year.
Hawai'i will host Chicago State next for four games over three days March 13-15 at Les Murakami Stadium.
