HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team evened its record at 5-5 as they nearly swept Stetson on Wednesday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex.
The Rainbow Wahine won the doubles point for an early 1-0 lead. UH's No. 1 duo of
Petra Melounova and
Nikola Dolakova defeated Stetson's Danel Ashinova and Lucie Renault, 6-2. On the No. 2 court,
Michelle Pits and
Madison Kim combined to knock off Brooke Milner and Laia Pasini, 6-4 to secure the point.
In singles, Melounova quickly dispatched Ashirova in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 on the No. 1 court. On the No. 5 court, UH's Kim followed by dominating Pasini in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Dolakova then clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Noa Cohen. With the match in hand, No. 2 Takamura fought back after dropping the first set to win in a third set super tiebreaker over Renault, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (2). Markovic followed with a straight-set victory over Milner, 7-5, 6-3. Stetson then broke through in the win column, taking the last match at No. 6 as Bicky Geurinckx held off UH's
Lea Romain, 6-7 (0), 7-5, 1-0 (7)
The Rainbow Wahine will remain at home with two more home matches next week as they take on Liberty on Wednesday, March 11 at 3:30 p.m. and North Texas on Thursday on March 12 at 3:30 p.m. Both matches will be held at the UH Tennis Complex.
