Hawai‘i Off To Strong Start After Day 1 of MPSF Championships

Los Angeles, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i swim and dive team got off to fast start on the first of four days at the MPSF Championships with both the men's and women's teams sitting in a tie at first-place overall.

Both the men's and women's 200 medley relay teams took gold in the first two events of the day, as the women's team broke the previous conference record in the event. Set by UH last season at 1:38.35, this year's squad touched the wall at 1:38.15.

The men claimed first place with a time of 1:25.03, a second over second-place UC Santa Barbara in the event.

The Gauchos answered in the 800 freestyle relay, claiming victories in both the men's and the women's events. UH and UCSB sit at No. 1 and No. 2 overall on the women's side at 74 apiece, and on the men's side at 72 apiece.

The action will pick back up on Thursday at 10 a.m. PT (8 a.m. HT) with the prelims, followed by the finals at 6:00 p.m. PT (4:00 p.m. HT). Thursday will feature the 200 free, 500 free, 200 individual medley, and the 50 free. Diving will see its first action as well as UH will aim to repeat last year's performance of sweeping all six events.
