HONOLULU— The University of Hawai'i soccer program and head coach
Michele Nagamine announced the signing of three local products to its future fall 2021 roster on Wednesday.
"We are very excited about having three local girls in our recruiting class for '21," said Nagamine. "We knew that this was going to be an intimate recruiting class because we had a large returning roster and very specific needs that each of these players fills nicely for us."
Jacey Jicha- A native of Honolulu, O'ahu, Jicha will graduate from Mililani high school in the spring of 2021. She recently helped lead Mililani to a 2020 OIA Championship while being named to the Star-Advertiser All-State First Team as well as the Scoring Live All Hawai'i First Team. Over the last 11 years, Jicha played for the Hawai'i Rush Soccer Club, winning the 2020 President's Day Tournament in Arizona and the 2018 USCS State Cup. She plans to major in psychology. While growing up on the island O'ahu, she was raised as a lifelong Rainbow Wahine fan.
"Jacey is an intelligent center back who reads the game well and is a true competitor. She has good size, is not afraid to mix it up and never gives up on the play. I watched her chase down a forward during the OIA Championships when the ball was played long. She turned on the jets, chased the forward down and cleared the ball - denying her a goal scoring opportunity. That grit and determination will serve her well at the college level."
Nicole Ando- A native of Honolulu, O'ahu, Ando will graduate from Mililani high school in the spring of 2021. She recently helped lead Mililani to a 2020 OIA Championship while being named honorable mention for Scoring Live. Over the last 10 years, Ando played for the Hawai'i Rush Soccer Club, winning the 2020 President's Day Tournament in Arizona and the 2018 USCS State Cup. She's an avid ukulele player, and her late grandfather Reginald Okamura was a well-known Volcanologist that worked at the Hawai'i Volcano Observatory for many years.
"Nicole is a crafty play maker and despite her smaller stature, she is explosive and loves to go forward. She doesn't just play the first thing she sees, so that creativity will help us in the midfield. She was a player who came to our College ID Camp and we enjoyed training her because she worked so hard and was always smiling."
Carley Park- A native of Pearl City, O'ahu, Park will graduate from Kamehameha Schools Kapālama in the spring of 2021. During her time playing for the Warriors, she won consecutive HHSAA State Championships in 2020 and 2019 and three straight ILH Conference Championships. During the 2018-19 season Park was named to the Star-Advertiser All-State Stellar Eleven Team. Along with her high school career, she played six years with Leahi 03 Premier. As a student Park was on the honor roll every year in high school and plans to major in business at UH.
"I love Carley's versatility and her love for competition. She can play anywhere on the flank and her ability to cross, service balls and score goals from outside shooting range is going to be dangerous for our opponents. She's really fun to watch and I think our fans will appreciate her style of play."
