HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team opens the 2020 season hosting the three-day Weinman Foundation Invitational tournament from Thursday, Jan. 9 – Saturday, Jan. 11 at the UH Tennis Complex. Thursday's matches will start at 9:00 a.m. while Friday and Saturday's matches. Competing in the tourney are BYU, Louisville, Northern Arizona, and Washington State.
Last season, the Rainbow Wahine finished the season getting edged out, 4-3 in the Big West Conference's championship match to Long Beach State. The 'Bows finished the year with a 101 overall record with a 5-2 record in the BWC. Leading the Rainbow Wahine into the 2020 season is three-time Big West Player of the Year and 2019 All-American,
Petra Melounova. Last year, Melounova recorded a 15-5 overall record with a 13-2 mark on the No. 1 court. She became the first men's or women's tennis player from UH to attain All-America honors in history after advancing to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Championships. She started the school year ranked at No. 33 in the ITA preseason poll. The Rainbow Wahine enter 2020 with a pair of players ranked in the ITA poll. Junior transfer
Bojana Markovic, who had a strong fall season, comes into the new year ranked at No. 91 while sophomore transfer
Satsuki Takamura enters the year tied with Washington State's Melissa Ates at No. 103 in singles.
Helping lead the 'Bows are seniors
Michelle Pits and
Nikola Dolakova. Pits recorded a 10-9 overall record last season while Dolakova finished 2019 with an 8-13 overall mark. Along with the two transfers, UH welcomes in a pair of freshmen--
