Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Stansberry’s Three Lifts UH To 76-75 Win Over UC Davis

HONOLULU – A storybook finish concluded an unforgettable evening as the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team defeated UC Davis, 76-75, Saturday  at the Stan Sheriff Center. Eddie Stansberry hit the game-winning three-pointer with 3.3 seconds left to punctuate a late rally and lift the  Rainbow  Warriors to victory on a night the program commemorated its 100th season.

A boisterous crowd, augmented by six decades of former players, coaches, and staff, watched the 'Bows win their third straight game and move into a tie for first-place in the Big West with a  4-1 mark. UH did it in comeback fashion, erasing a nine-point deficit in the final four minutes.

Stansberry, who scored the final five points for UH, finished with a game-high 23 points, while hitting 5-of-12 three-pointers, none bigger than his final one of the night. Drew Buggs, who provided the dish on that final shot from the corner, finished with 11 assists to just one turnover while playing all 40 minutes.

Those performances helped UH stave off the hot-shooting Aggies (8-13, 2-3 Big West) who got a combined 43 points from Ezra Manjon (22 points) and Stefan Gonzalez (21).

Despite six three-pointers from Gonzalez, UH led 42-38 at half and led by as many as eight points early in the second half.  Manjon though scored 16 point after the break as the Aggies appeared to wrestle control  of the game away from the 'Bows. The freshman's jumper gave UC Davis a 71-62 lead with 4:14 remaining.

However, the 'Bows wouldn't give in and ended the game on a 14-4 flourish to defeat UC Davis for the third straight time. Zigmars Raimo added 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists for UH . The 'Bows also got a huge lift from Justin Hemsley who scored a career-high 14 points in the absence of Samuta Avea who was sidelined for the first time this season.

UH will now conclude its four-game Big West homestand with a matchup versus CSUN on Saturday, Feb. 1. The game will be part of a doubleheader with the women slated to tip at 5:30 p.m. and the men at 8:00 p.m.
