HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team battled hard, but fell to No. 16 Florida State on Saturday, 4-2. The Seminoles improved to 2-0 on the season while the Rainbow Wahine dropped to 0-2 at the UH Tennis Complex.
Florida State swept the doubles to earn the first point of the day. FSU's No. 3 Manu Salas and Sasha Hill defeated UH's
Satsuki Takamura and
Michelle Pits 6-2. While on the No. 2 court, Hawai'i's No. 2
Rebecca Ehn and
Bojana Markovic fell to Petra Hule and Victoria Allen to clinch the point.
In a battle of Petras, UH's No. 1
Petra Melounova swept Petra Hule in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Fellow senior,
Nikola Dolakova twice doubled up on Allen, 6-3, 6-3. Both UH players Markovic (No. 2) and Pits (No. 4) took their opponents to three sets. Markovic fell to Salas, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 while Pits lost to Hill in the longest match of the day, 7-5, 1-6, 6-4.
The Rainbow Wahine will embark on its first roadtrip of the season next week. UH will have 11 days to prepare for No. 1-ranked and defending national champions Stanford, on Thursday, Jan. 30 at the Taube Family Tennis Center.
