HONOLULU—The final day of the rain-soaked Weinman Foundation Invitational ended with some singles matches getting rained out. But the five teams got as many matches in as they could while the rain subsided for awhile on Saturday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex. The final day of the tourney started about three hours later than the scheduled 8:00 a.m. start.
The teams started with doubles. Hawai'i's
Bojana Markovic and
Rebecca Ehn doubled up on BYU's Madeline Almeida and Helen Jiao, 6-3. It was UH's only doubles win out of three matches for the day.
In singles, the Rainbow Wahine had a strong showing winning four of five matches—all in straight sets. Freshman Ehn on to defeat Northern Arizona's Sydney Roman, 6-1, 7-5. Senior
Petra Melounova held Washington State's Melissa Ates at bay, 6-1, 6-3. Rookie
Madison Kim nearly blanked WSU's Jovana Knezevic, 6-0, 6-2 while junior Markovic knocked off Washington State's Savannah Ly-Nguyen, 6-4, 6-3.
The Rainbow Wahine will have a few days to prepare for a powerhouse week of competition as they take on 14
th-ranked Washington on Wedensday, Jan. 15 at 3:00 p.m. and No. 16 Florida State on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 10:00 a.m.
