Hawai‘i Drops Double Overtime Contest at North Dakota, 2-1

Fargo, N.D.— The University of Hawai'i soccer team dropped its afternoon matchup at North Dakota by a score of 2-1 in double overtime on Sunday.

The Rainbow Wahine (2-3-1) are now 1-1 during their first road trip of the season but will try to escape with a winning record when they visit South Dakota State in two days. The Fighting Warhawks (4-1-1) claimed the first win in the all-time series with U.H. and have won four of their last five matches.

U.H. struck first in the 40th minute when sophomore midfielder McKenzie Moore corralled a loose ball on the right side of the box. Moore swiped past a defender launching the ball over the goalkeeper's head finding the bottom left corner of the net.

The second half saw the 'Bows' opponent scoreless streak come to an end at 381 minutes and 55 seconds as the 'Hawks scored in the closing moments of regulation. Meghan Wilson sent a crossing pass to the center of the box to Ashley Ebeling for a deflection into the net in the 87th minute. Following the tying goal, U.H. and N.D. battled through the first overtime, into the second extra period. In the 103rd minute, Mimi Eiden took a pass from Baley McNitt, beating the U.H. defensive line, and sending the ball into the net on a breakaway for a 2-1 score.

U.H. had its chance throughout the afternoon, accumulating eight shots and six shots on goal. But the 'Hawks added more pressure with 15 shots but with just three shots on goal.

The 'Bows will wrap up their trip as head coach Michele Nagamine will lead her team into the state of South Dakota for the first time in program history for a matchup with the JackRabbits. The pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. HST and will be streamed online.
