Game Notes
ADDING TO THE MANTEL- On Sept. 2, senior goalkeeper
Alexis Mata was named Big West Defensive Player of the Week for the fifth time in her career, tying her for fourth all-time in the conference. Leading to the award were her three matches against San Francisco, Nevada, and Sacramento State. Mata recorded a 0.90 goals-against average while collecting 14 saves in 300 plus minutes of action.
200 MINUTES AND COUNTING- The win over Nevada and the tie with Sacramento State showcased a critical element for this year's squad, defense. During the stretch UH held their opponents scoreless, totaling 204 minutes and 49 seconds. The main contributors have been goalkeeper senior
Alexis Mata along with the backline of junior
Cristina Drossos, and a trio of sophomores in
Natalie Dixon,
Natalie Daub, and
Elena Palacios.
FRESHMEN MINUTES- The 2018 season was in many ways the year of the freshmen for UH soccer as eight of 10 freshmen saw significant playing time. In 2019, a new crop of freshmen are getting their chance with five of the nine in the class seeing playing time for the 'Bows. Forward
Kelci Sumida and defender
Emily Cottrell have received the bulk of the minutes so far, as Sumida has totaled over 300 minutes as Cotrrell is north of 130 minutes.
