SACRAMENTO, CALIF -- Competing in its second 6k meet of the season, the University of Hawai'i cross country team was paced by graduate student
Shannon McClish who guideded the Rainbow Wahine to a 31
st place finish Saturday morning at the Capital Cross Challenge in Sacramento, Calif.
McClish, the Morro Bay, Calif. native, continued her strong showing, finishing first for UH, while coming down the chute with a time of 21:41.4 for 58
th overall and earned the program's seventh-best 6k time. She finished as the top runner for UH in every meet competed in so far this season.
Nearly equaling her PR mark, freshman
Rebecca DeKay rolled to a second-place finish for UH and 184
th overall (22:56.9). While fellow freshman
Sophia Lodigiani crossed the 6k race in 23:00.3 for 196
th overall. The freshmen duo remains a strong suit for the 'Bows, placing within the scoring five in every meet competed in.
Rounding out the scoring five, freshmen
Sarriah Brown and
Anna Backus finished 272
nd (24:00.5) and 277
th (24:09.2), respectively.
Also competing for Hawai'i, freshman
Alyssa Barnes finished 284
th (24:21.4) and sophomore
Sophia Morgan placed 303
rd (25:02.7).
UH logged 866 points for an average 6k time of 23:04.
The Rainbow Wahine will be back home to compete in the Hawai'i Pacific University Invitational next Saturday, Oct. 5.
