TEMPE, Ariz.— The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced the 2019-20 Oracle ITA Division I preseason national rankings. Hawai'i has two players ranked in the Top 125.
Petra Melounova enters her season ranked at No. 33 while newcomer
Bojana Markovic begins the year at No. 95.
Melounova, who became the first ITA All-American at Hawai'i last season, finished the 2019 campaign ranked at No. 52. As a junior, she became the first Rainbow Wahine to advance to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championships. Melounova is a three-time Big West Player of the Year and has advanced to the NCAA tourney all three seasons of her UH career. Her 33
rd-ranking this preseason is the highest for a Rainbow Wahine.
Markovic is a junior transfer from Texas. Originally from Belgrade, Serbia, Markovic recorded an overall 20-14 singles record and an 18-20 record in doubles. In singles, she played both at No. 3 and No. 4 for the Longhorns. In doubles as a rookie at UT, she and partner Petra Granic posted an 11-2 record playing at No. 1. For the 2018 season, the duo went 12-3 overall.

Nikola Dolakova will open the fall at the ITA Saint Francis All-America Championshps hosted by Tulsa from Oct. 5-13. Melounova will be making her third appearance at the prestigious pre-season tournament and for the first time in UH history, she begins the tourney in the Main Draw Singles. Markovic will compete in the Qualifying Singles rounds first, while Dolakova will compete in doubles in Qualifying round.
The Rainbow Wahine welcome in four newcomers for the 2019-20 season. Also transferring into the UH program is sophomore
Satsuki Takamura (Saitama, Japan). The 'Bows also have two incoming freshmen—
Madison Kim (Menlo Park, Calif.) and
Rebecca Ehn (Lidkoping, Sweden).
