SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.—Two members of the University of Hawai'i men's tennis team competed on Day 2 of the Battle in the Bay Classic in San Francisco, Calif. The Rainbow Warriors split their singles matches and was edged out in a hard fought doubles match at the California Tennis Club on Friday.
Sophomore Andre Ilagan came back after dropping the second set to defeat Luc Fomba (TCU) in three sets, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3. Ilagan advances to the Round of 16 and will battle Michigan's No. 2 seed-Ondrej Styler, who hung on to defeat UC Santa Barbara's Victor Krustev in a pair of tiebreaker sets, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4). Ilagan's match vs. Styler will be at 7:30 a.m. HT.
Labrunie fell in his Round of 32 match in straight sets to USF's Nitzan Ricklis, 6-2, 6-3. Labrunie will play in a consolation match to be determined tomorrow.
In doubles, UH's duo of Ilagan and Labrunie was edged out in the consolation round. Hawai'i fell in a tiebreaker to San Francisco's Phuc Huynh and Mitchell Johnson, 8-7 (3).
