BREMERTON, Wash. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team posted rounds of 299 and 304 on the first day of the season-opening Husky Invitational Monday at the Gold Mountain's Olympic Course.
The Rainbow Warriors currently sit in 14
thplace. Host Washington leads the tournament at 554, eight strokes ahead of second place Long Beach State (562).
UH was led by freshman
Kotaro Murata, one of two new golfers making their Warrior debuts along with transfer
Kanata Irei. Murata, a native of Matsuyama, Japan, fired an even par 72 in Round 1 before following up with a 3-over 75 for a 147 total and is tied for 38
thplace. Irei, a transfer from St. Leo University, shot 81-82 for a 163 total.
Junior
Justin Arcano is one stroke behind Murata after carding rounds of 73 and 75 and is 4-over 148 and tied for 47
thplace. Fellow junior
Justin Ngan is currently tied for 65
thplace at 153 (78-75) while junior
Matt Lloyd is two strokes behind him at 155 (76-79) and a tie for 70
th.
Four golfers share the Round 2 lead at 6-under 138 including UW's Noah Woolsey (70-68) and Jan Schneider (66-72). Also tied atop the leaderboard are Oregon State's Spencer Tibbits (70-68) and Long Beach State's Owen Avrit (67-71).
The tournament concludes with the third and final round scheduled for Tuesday.
Also in the state of Washington, UH sent four golfers to the Olympic College Invitational held in Port Orchard, Wash. Senior
Nick Nelson is UH's top individual at even par 144 after rounds of 73 and 71 and shares third place, four strokes behind leader Shawn Lu (73-67) of Oregon State.

st).
The Olympic College Invitational also wraps up with the final round on Tuesday.
