NEW ORLEANS – University of Hawai'i quarterback
Cole McDonald was picked to his fourth preseason watch list after The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, announced its list of 30 of the top quarterbacks in the nation heading into the 2019 season.
The winner will be selected by a voting panel that includes national media and each of the Mannings following the completion of the bowl season. The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting.
McDonald was also a preseason candidate for the Maxwell Award (nation's best player), Davey O'Brien Award (nation's best quarterback), and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award (nation's best senior or 4
th-year junior quarterback).
The junior from La Mirada, Calif., was a midseason addition to the Manning Award Watch List last season. McDonald is one of two Mountain West quarterbacks on the list along with Utah State's Jordan Love.
Former Warrior quarterback Bryant Moniz was selected to the watch list in 2010 and '11 while Colt Brennan was a finalist for the award in 2006.
The list of 10 finalists will be released on Thursday, November 28 with the winner announced in the week following the College Football Playoff National Championship.
