Rainbow Sailors Place Fourth At PCCSC Team Race Championship

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The University of Hawai'i Rainbow sailing team placed fourth at the 2019 PCCSC Team Race Championship hosted by UC Santa Barbara this weekend. Regatta champion Stanford was impressive throughout the weekend with a perfect 15-0 record.

Seven schools total competed in the double-round-robin event, and 42 races were sailed over two days. The 'Bows struggled in the double round-robin but managed to get through to the final four with a 4-8 record. Joining UH in the championship round were Stanford (12-0), UC Santa Barbara (9-3), and Cal Maritime (9-3).

Six races were sailed in the final four. Once in the championship round, the 'Bows (4-11) went 0-4, whhile Stanford (15-0) and Cal Maritime (11-4) ultimately earned bids to the ICSA Team Race National Championship in Newport Rhode Island, May 25-27. UC Santa Barbara finished in third, one race shy of qualifying.

The UH skippers were Mathew Butler, Michael Pacholski, and Patrick Wilkinson. Crew members for the 'Bows included Danielle Ahir, Sophia Deming, Cantlen Forni and Devon Stapleton.

Next up, is the the PCCSC Women's Championship in Long Beach, Calif. on April 20-21 and the Coed Dinghy Championship in Long Beach on April 27-28. The top four teams in these two events will earn bids to the college sailing nationals.
