HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (7-9, 4-2 Big West) upset league-leader UC Santa Barbara, 6-1 on Senior Day at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine recorded its fourth-straight win while handing the Gauchos (9-7, 3-1 BWC) their first Big West loss of the season. It was the final home match for three Rainbow Wahine—Alzbeta Houbova, Maayan Sela and Roxanne Resma.
 
The Rainbow Wahine started by earning their fourth-straight doubles point to start the match. Hawai'i's No. 1 duo of Petra Melounova and Nikola Dolakova held off UCSB's Stephanie Yamada and Tiffany Lagarde by a break, 6-4. After falling on the no. 2 court, Hawai'i's doubles team of Maayan Sela and Alzbeta Houbova clinched the point with a 6-4 win on the No. 3 court over Amit Lev-Ari and Juliana Valereo.
 
Hawai'i's 64^th-ranked Melounova defeated Lev-Ari in straight sets on the No. 1 court to start singles play, 6-1, 7-5. Melounova has won 11 of her last 12 matches—including the last three-straight. She improved to 12-2 in dual matches this season. UCSB countered with Elizaveta Volodko holding off UH's Dolakova in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2. But UH won the next four matches for the 6-1 win over the Gauchos. In their final home matches of their collegiate careers, Houbova defeated Lise Sentenac, 6-4, 6-3; Sela fought back to clinch the match for the 'Bows with a three-set win over Lagarde at No.2, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3; and Roxanne Resma gutted out a marathon, three-set win at No. 5 over Anastasia Goncharova, 1-6, -4, 7-6 (6). Resma has come on strong, winning her last three-straight singles matches. Junior Michelle Pits rounded out the match with a hard fought, 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 win over Yamada on the No. 4 court.
 
The Rainbow Wahine have one more regular season match at UC Davis on Sunday, April 21 at 8:00 a.m. before heading to the 2019 Big West Tournament which begins on Thursday, April 25 at the Indian Wells Tennis Center.
