Men’s Volleyball Opens NCAA Tournament In Semifinal Round

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The No. 1-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team begins the 2019 NCAA Men's Collegiate Championship with a semifinal match-up versus Lewis, Thursday, May 2 at the Walter Pyramid. The Rainbow Warriors (27-2) earned a bye into the semifinals after receiving the No. 1 overall seed in the seven-team tournament.

  • Hawai'i (27-2) is making its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and first as the overall top seed and first as an automatic selection.
  • UH earned the automatic bid by virtue of winning the Big West Tournament championship with a thrilling five-set victory over defending champion Long Beach State.
  • Head coach Charlie Wade has guided the Warriors to the NCAA Tournament three times in the last five seasons.
  • UH is 2-2 in the NCAA semifinals with wins in 1996 and 2002 to reach the title match.  
  • UH's 27 wins is tied for the most in a single-season in program history along with the 1996 and 2017 teams.
  • UH is 4-2 against this year's tournament field with wins over USC, Pepperdine, Princeton, and Long Beach State.
  • Since 2015, UH and Lewis are tied for the most wins during that span (113) behind Long Beach State (123) and Ohio State (119).
