MALIBU, Calif. – The No. 5 University of Hawai'i women's beach volleyball team looks to continue its league dominance in the 2019 Big West Beach Volleyball Tournament, April 26-27, at Zuma Beach in Malibu. The SandBows are the three-time defending tournament champions and aim for a fourth straight title in the seven-team event.
UH is the top seed and will receive a bye in the double-elimination tournament. The Rainbow Wahine will face the winner of the (4) CSUN-(5) UC Davis matchup on Friday at noon PT/9:00 a.m. HT. This is the third time in four seasons that UH has received the top seed and the SandBows are 9-0 all-time in the tournament.
For the first time ever, the event will be live streamed. Fans can catch action for all 12 matches at
p1140.
It should be another competitive tournament with three teams ranked nationally in the top 15. UH moved up to No. 5 after being at No. 6 the previous six weeks. Cal Poly is ranked at No. 8, while Long Beach State is at No. 12 in the latest AVCA Poll.
Hawai'i defeated five of its six league foes at last month's Big West Challenge at Pismo Beach. All five wins came via sweeps, including one of then-No. 9 Long Beach State. UH's match against host Cal Poly went down to the wire, with the Mustangs handing UH its only loss of the weekend, 3-2.
