ROHNERT PARK, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team improved to 6-8 after nearly sweeping Sonoma State, 6-1 on Sunday morning.
The Rainbow Warriors took an early 1-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches. UH's No. 3 duo of
Chia-Hua Lu and
Asad Siyyid defeated Santiago Sarudiansky and Josh Liu, 6-3, while UH's No. 2 pairing of
Blaz Seric and Simao Telo Alves knocked off Alec Wong and Igor Pissarenko, 6-3 to secure the point.
In singles, Hawai'i kept things rolling winning the first five matches. UH's No. 4 Alves cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Pissarenko to start things off. Lu followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Wong on the No. 6 court, while Warriors No. 3, Seric, had a close first set against Max Nudell, but coasted to a 7-5, 6-1 to clinch the match for the 'Bows. UH's No. 1
Andre Ilagan wrapped up his team-high eighth win of the season with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Nate Oppenheim. No. 2
Lucas Labrunie came back after dropping the first set to knock off Santiago Sarudiansky via a third set super tiebreaker, 5-7, 6-1, 1-0(5). Labrunie improved to 7-5 in dual matches this season.
The Rainbow Warriors will remain on the road for their Big West opener at UC Davis on Tuesday, April 2.
