HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (5-9, 3-2 Big West) defeated Cal Poly, 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex. The Mustangs fell to 6-8 overall and 2-3 in the Big West.
The Rainbow Wahine captured the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead. UH's No. 3 duo of
Maayan Sela and
Alzbeta Houbova started the match nearly blanking CP's MacKenzie Worsnop and Caroline Williams, 6-1. On the No. 2 court, UH's
Michelle Pits and
Roxanne Resma defeated Susanne Boyden and Grace Olyphant, 6-3.
In singles, UH's No. 1, 100
th-ranked
Petra Melounova made quick work of Emily Louie-Meadors with a 6-1, 6-2 victory to start things off. Hawai'i's No. 3
Nikola Dolakova took down Worsnop in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. UH's No. 4 Pits then clinched the match with a straight-set win over Olyphant, 6-2, 6-2. Hawai'i's fifth win of the day came on the No. 5 court with Resma outlasting Caroline Williams in a third-set super tiebreaker, 6-3, 1-6, 1-0(11).
Hawai'i will take on San Jose State in its final non-conference match of the season on Sunday, March 31 at 2:00 p.m.
