HONOLULU – On day one of the final home meet of the 2019 season, the University of Hawaiʻi women's track and field team kicked off the Rainbow Relays on a high note on Friday at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex.
Four Rainbow Wahine excelled in the javelin on Friday headlined by
Alexis Brenzil's top distance of 44.72m. Taking second in the javelin was
Kathryn Philpott with a toss of 40.02m. Calli Ann Abbott (38.22m) and Madeline Muilenburg (37.05m) also had strong performances on day one in the javelin.
Jada Pierce and
Meg Jackson both posted Big West Championship qualifying marks in the hammer throw on the day. Pierce came up with a distance of 47.76m for third, while Jackson placed fourth with a mark of 47.34m. Both of the marks were career bests for the event.
In the triple jump,
Charlie Poretti reached a distance of 11.04m. In the final women's race of the day, Gio Casazza ran the 3000m in 11:17.01 followed by
Hope Stewart in 11:26.35.
Day two of the Rainbow Relays is Saturday, March 23. Events will get underway at 8:30 a.m.
