SandBows Get Past Grand Canyon; Homayun Reaches 100 Wins

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The No. 6 University of Hawai'i beach volleyball team rallied from down two points to pick up a 3-2 road win versus No. 17 Grand Canyon Thursday at the GCU Beach Volleyball Stadium. The SandBows improved to 11-4 on the season with its seventh straight win.

It was a milestone day for Ari Homayun who hit 100 career overall (dual + pairs) wins. The senior paired with Julia Scoles at the No. 2 court and earn a 21-16, 21-16 win over Bella Bauman and Jessica Stansfield to reach the milestone. She became the just the fourth Rainbow Wahine to hit the century mark, joining Kaiwi Schucht (103), Nikki Taylor (103), and Katie Spieler (100).

That win—UH's first point of the day—paved the way for a comeback by the Rainbow Wahine who were powered by their top three flights. The Antelopes took courts 4 and 5 to open the match and take a 2-0 lead. Court 4 was the only three-set match of the day as the Antelopes' Esmee Priem and Taylor Jarzombek out-lasted Kylin Loker and Hi'ilawe Huddleston 21-18, 15-21, 17-15

But UH proved too much at the top. Homayun and Scoles' win was followed not long after by a pair straight set wins by Emily Maglio and Amy Ozee at the top flight and the final and clinching point by Morgan Martin and Pani Napoleon at the No. 3 flight. UH remained undefeated in eight all-time meetings against Grand Canyon (10-3), while also snapping the Antelopes nine-match win streak.

Next up for the Rainbow Wahine is the Arizona State Invitational, March 22-23. UH will open the Invitational Friday morning versus No. 5 Pepperdine at 7:00 a.m. HT, before taking on host Arizona State at 1:00 p.m. HT.
