OXNARD, Calif.—After spending 15 years with Mt. San Antonio College along with numerous accolades, University of Hawai'i women's basketball head coach
Laura Beeman was inducted into the California Community College Athletic Association Hall of Fame on Thursday night.
"I'm incredibly honored to be inducted into a Hall of Fame with prestigious coaches, many of whom are still my friends," said Beeman. "I learned so much from that body on how to coach, how to teach, and it was where my foundation set, I'm so honored."
During her tenure, Beeman notched a 390-110 (.780) record from 1994 to 2010, winning 10 South Coast Conference Championships, and four California Community College state titles, including back-to-back-to-back championships from 2006 to 2008. She was also selected as the CCCWBCA coach of the year on four separate occasions while coaching 10 All-Regional selections and two All-State selections.
"I tell my players at Hawai'i it takes a community to raise a child," said Beeman. "Every year I remind them of that, and it's what makes Hawai'i special because we have such a strong community, but my community as a coach was during my time at Mt. San Antonio."
After her successful run, she was later brought on as an assistant with the LA Sparks and later at USC from 2010 to 2012, and then took over the reins as the head coach of the Rainbow Wahine in 2012.
Beeman will take the 'Bows into action on Friday as they'll face off with UC Riverside in the Big West Conference tournament semifinals at 11:30 a.m. HT (2:30 p.m. PT).
