Men’s Volleyball Cruises In Win Over Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team needed a little more than 75 minutes to dispatch Queens Thursday in the first-ever meeting between the teams at the Levine Center. Set scores were 25-13, 25-17, 25-16.

The Rainbow Warriors (6-0) extended their streak of consecutive straight-set wins to open the season to six. UH was never threatened in the match and were able to utilize its bench throughout. Reserve opposite Filip Humler led the way with 10 kills along with three aces, five digs, and four blocks.

Outside hitter Colton Cowell added eight kills, two aces, and a career-high five blocks. Middle blocker Patrick Gasman also tallied five blocks to go along with his five kills. As a team, UH hit .458 and finished with six aces and 11 blocks.

Nic Cavallaro had eight kills to lead the Royals (2-8).

The Warriors hit .700 in Set 1 led by Rado Parapunov's seven kills on .875 hitting in his only set appearance. The Royals were more competitive in Set 2 as UH tinkered with its lineup. Still the Warriors rolled to a 25-17 victory, scoring the final three points. Hawai'i hit .476 in Set 3 with Humler leading the way, serving three aces and recording nine kills in the final two sets.

UH will next face Saint Francis (Pa.) in a non-conference match, Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET before playing Queens again on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
