SAN DIEGO, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team was edged out in a heartbreaker to San Diego, 4-3. The Rainbow Wahine (3-3) had their opportunities, but it was the Toreros were able to hold off Hawai'i in UH's final road match of their first mainland trip of the spring.
 
San Diego was able to capture the doubles point, but not without a fight from the 'Bows. UH's No. 1 duo of Petra Melounova and Nikola Dolakova was able to defeat Solymar Colling and Maria-Paula Torres, 6-2. USD's No. 3 Kati Kukaras and Gemma Garcia then knocked off UH's Michelle Pits and Alzbeta Houbova, 6-1. On ­­the No. 2 court, San Diego's Daniela Morales and Maria Tyrina held off Maayan Sela and Roxanne Resma in a battle that ended in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (4) to take the double point and a 1-0 lead.
 
In singles, the Rainbow Wahine came out firing. After dropping the No. 6 match, UH won the next three-straight matches to take a 3-2 lead. Maayan Sela started things by beating Daniela Morales, 6-3, 6-2. Melounova then defeated Solymar Colling in straight sets for her third-straight singles win, 7-6 (4), 6-2 and Nikola Dolakova gave UH the 3-2 lead with a second set tiebreaker win, 6-3, 7-6 (2). San Diego then evened the match as Michelle Pits fell in a three set match against Gemma Garcia, 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-2. With the match knotted at 3-3, USD's Maria-Paul Torres then outlasted UH's Roxanne Resma at No. 5 in a marathon of match. Torres clinched the match with a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (10) win.
 
The Rainbow Wahine will return before heading back on the road to California to face St. Mary's (CA), USC, and Cal State Fullerton beginning March 2.
