Game Notes-
• UH is coming off a significant statement win after a long weekend. After starting the Heineken Rainbow Wahine Showdown 0-2 with losses to North Texas and No. 13 North Carolina State, UH knocked off Texas, 73-60.
• The victory by UH over UT can be contributed to the accuracy from beyond the three-point line. Juniors
Amy Atwell and
Jadynn Alexander went a combined 9-of-11 from long distance, helping the 'Bows shoot 10-for-19 at 53 percent.
• Atwell's performance against the Longhorns was her best of the season so far as she scored a season-high 24 points in the victory. Atwell has notched double-digit scoring in five of eight games. In the 'Bows' four wins, Atwell has scored 10 or more points.
• The precursor to the upset over UT was the matchup with No. 13 NC State. The 'Bows brought the game to a one-point deficit with two minutes to go in regulation, giving a scare to the unbeaten Wolfpack. But after an injury timeout, NC State swung momentum back in their favor with a 9-1 run for the eventual final.
• The history between UH and its two opponents favor both Washington and Oregon State, but by a narrow margin, with each the two Pac-12 opponents knocking of UH in their most recent meetings. The last time UH upended OSU was at home in 2010, and the previous victory against UW was in 2007. The 'Bows have never beaten the Huskies on the road, while only beating OSU once outside of Hawai'i back in 1989.
HISTORY LESSON
Most recently, UH went toe-to-toe with No. 13 NC State, dropping the game 68-59, but showcased the ability to give the ranked team a challenging game. UH has come close over the years but has not beaten a Top 25 team since Nov. 22, 1998. The 'Bows, led by 1,000 career-point club member Raylene Howard and all-time program assists leader Bj Itoman took down No. 17 Kansas, 51-47.
SO MANY TOURNAMENTS
Many fans don't realize the impact UH has on the landscape of college basketball. Every season the university ranks as one of the top travel destinations for tournaments. The 'Bows are coming off back-to-back weekends of home tournaments at the Stan Sheriff Center with the 40th year of the Bank of Hawaii Classic and the Heineken Rainbow Wahine Showdown. UH went a combined 2-3 in the two tournaments.
