Hawai‘i Turns in an Impressive Day at the Art Adamson Invitational

College Station, Tex.—The second day of competition for the University of Hawai'i swimming and diving team was one of progress as numerous student-athletes turned in solid performances.

The men's team jumped from the No. 4 position up to No. 3, totaling 423 points with one day to go, just 25 points shy of No. 2 USC. The 'Bows jumped over the University of Stanford in the standings, currently coached by former UH head coach Dan Schemmel. The women's team remains at No. 4 with 275 points.

The third and final day of competition will take place on Saturday as UH will work to climb up the standings.

Diving:

Sophomore Max Burman turned in a top tier performance as he placed second in the men's one-meter dive. Finishing just behind Kurtis Matthew of Texas A&M, one of the top divers in the college ranks. Senior Lucas Cooperman made his way into the finals with Burman, placing eighth overall.

"It was a high-level group of divers," said assistant diving coach Anita Rossing. "Both Max (Burman) and Luke (Copperman) showed great focus and performed well. I was proud of their efforts."

Swimming:

Much like they did on Thursday, a men's relay team showcased its high-caliber level of skill. Seniors Olli Kokko, Kane Follows, Mateusz Chaba teamed up with junior 'aukai Lileikis for a No. 2 finish in the 200 medley relay, just behind Texas A&M. Going into the day, the University of Texas held the top time in the country at 1:26.20, both the Aggies and the 'Bows surpassed the time. UH touched the wall at 1:25.83, while Texas A&M clocked in at 1:24.44.

Both Kokko and Lileikis turned in solid solo performances as well, each taking a second-place finish in their respected events. Lileikis finished with a time of 46.59 in the 100 butterfly, just a second behind the first-place finisher. Kokko narrowly missed taking first place in the 100 breaststroke with a time 52.23. Hank Poppe of Stanford barely outdid Kokko at 52.05.

The top performances on the women's side came from senior Phoebe Hines, as she made the finals of the 200 freestyle, finishing at No. 8. Junior Lucia Lassman collected a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly B Final, placing her at No. 9 overall.
