KA'ANAPALI, Maui – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team slid in the team standings but saw a fantastic round from Maui-native
Justin Ngan who shot a career-low round of 5-under 66 on the second day of the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational at the Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course.
Ngan carded six birdies on the day and is in a tie for 20th place after two full rounds. Through the two days, Ngan has made seven birdies and only bogeyed two holes.
After the junior's third-best score of the tournament, Ngan's teammates shot 74 (
Nick Nelson), 75 (
Kanata Irei), 76 (
Trevor Hirata), and 76 (
Kotaro Murata).
The three individuals for the Rainbow Warriors,
Matt Lloyd,
Cole Yoshida and
AJ Teraoka shot 74, 79 and 86, respectively.
Trent Phillips of Georgia posted a tournament-best round of 64, bringing his two-round total to 129 after shooting 65 on the first day. Phillips is two strokes ahead of Oklahoma's Quade Cummins (131).
Washington (541) moved up five places in the team standings after carding 17-under par as a team. The 18th-ranked Huskies have a one-stroke lead over Round 1 leader, No. 5 Oklahoma.
Sunday's shotgun start is set for 8:30 a.m. HT.
