HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team opened Day 1 of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Friday morning at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine competed against players from CSUN and Hawai'i Pacific in the three-day tournament.
 
Hawai'i won three of their four doubles matches. Petra Melounova and Madison Kim pulled away from CSUN's Jolene Coetzee and Ana Isabel Fraile Toboso, 6-2. UH seniors Nikola Dolakova and Michelle Pits also won 6-2 over CSUN;s Ekatarina Repina and Jacquie Tan. UH's Bojana Markovic and Satsuki Takamura edged out HPU's Marleen Tilgner and Mihoki Miyahara in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (8).
 
In singles action, the Rainbow Wahine captured four win. Takamura cruised passed the Matadors' Coetzee, 6-1, 6-1. UH's Dolakova defeated HPU's Elodie Busson in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5 while UH's Pits won as CSUN's Repina retired after the first set. UH's 95th-ranked Markovic rallied after dropping the first set to win in a third set tie-breaker over the Sharks' Tilgner, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (9). After dropping her first set in a tie-breaker, UH's Kim rallied to tie the match at 1-1, but eventually fell in the third set, 7-6 (4), 1-6, 6-3. 

The Rainbow Wahine Invitational tournament continues on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 8:00 a.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
