KAHUKU, O'AHU-- The University of Hawai'i cross country team capped off its last meet on the island on a winning note, capturing the 2019 HPU Invitational Saturday morning at the Kahuku Golf Course.
UH used a balanced attack with the scoring five finishing 2-3-6-7-8 to secure the HPU title.
The Rainbow Wahine were led by a quartet of freshmen, including
Rebecca DeKay who lead all UH harriers. The Ontario, Canada native finished second overall and recorded a new 5k PR, coming down the chute with a time of 19:36.9, trouncing her old mark by nearly 45 seconds.
Sophia Lodigiani and
Sarriah Brown both notched career performances in their second 5k race of their careers. Lodigiani finished third overall and nabbed a new 5k time of 20:20.9, beating an old time by 39 seconds. Brown finished sixth overall, posting a PR time of 20:40.9, surpassing her past mark by 31 seconds.
The 'Bows weren't done yet,
Alyssa Barnes finished seventh overall and also accounted for a new PR, finishing with a time of 20:45.8.
Rounding out the scoring five and competing in her first meet on the season, junior
Sienna Santiago placed eighth overall (20:51.3).

The Rainbow Wahine will be back in action when they compete at the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara on Saturday, Oct. 19.
