Men’s Golf To Host Inaugural Hoakalei CC Invite; Island Hops To Maui

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team will host a pair of tournaments next week beginning with the inaugural Hoakalei Country Club Invitational on O'ahu followed by the 6th annual Kā'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational in west Maui.
 
The tournaments signal the end of the fall season and features competitive fields that includes 18 teams ranked in the Top 100 including top-ranked Oklahoma (Kā'anapali) and No. Louisville (Hoakalei).
 
First up for the Rainbow Warriors is the 20-team Hoakalei CC Invitational, Oct. 28-30. The course, which will play at a par-72 and 7,248 yards, was designed by Ernie Els and opened in 2009. 
 
The field includes seven Top 100 teams headlined by Louisville. Other ranked teams include No. 32 East Tennessee State, No. 41 Ole Miss, No. 51 Marquette, No. 64 Nevada, No. 72 Missouri, and No. 83 Sam Houston State.
 
Later in the week, the Rainbow Warriors will travel to Maui for the Kā'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational. That tournament features 11 Top 100 teams including eight ranked in the Top 50. In addition to Oklahoma, also participating are No. 17 Clemson, No. 19 Washington, No. 21 Georgia, No. 24 UCLA, No. 40 Liberty and No. 45 West Virginia.
 
The 54-hole tournament will feature 18 holes each day at the par-71, 6,700-yard Royal Kā'anapali Course. The tourney begins each day with an 8:30 a.m. HT shotgun start. The Royal Kā'anapali was built in 1962 and is one of only two courses in Hawai'i designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr.
 
Freshman Kotaro Murata leads the Rainbow Warriors with a 73.0 scoring average and was the team's top finisher at both the Husky Invitational and Alister MacKenzie Invitational. Senior Nick Nelson sports a 73.8 average while junior Justin Arcano has a 74.6 average.
