MALIBU, Calif.--The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team opened action at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships hosted by Pepperdine at the Ralph-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif. on Thursday.

The Rainbow Warriors started off in first round of doubles with partners Axel Labrunie and Blaz Seric edging out UC Irvine Mike Mkratchian and Daniel Gealer, 8-7. In the second round, UCLA's Patrick Zahraj and Drew Baird held off Axel Labrunie and Seric, 8-5. Lucas Labrunie and Andre Ilagan, who had a bye in the first round, also fell in the second round to UCLA's Max Wild and Connor Rapp.

Seric was the lone Rainbow Warrior to win his Round of 128 singles match, defeating Mateus Smolicki of UC Irvine, 7-5, 6-3. Seric then lost to Arizona's Carlos Hassey, 6-2, 6-2 in the Round of 64.

UH's Ilagan had a bye in the first round. In the second round, Ilagan was on fire, nearly blanking Grand Canyon's Freddie Grant, 6-0, 6-1. Ilagan will take on Pepperdine's Enrique Luque Rico on Friday in the Round of 32 on Friday. The other Rainbow Warriors will be competing in the consolation rounds of the tournament.
